How Often Should You Get Garage Door Maintenance?
Your garage door is likely the largest moving object in your home, opening and closing hundreds of times a year. Like any mechanical system, it needs regular attention.
Once a year, at minimum
A full tune-up once a year covers lubrication, hardware tightening, balance testing, and a safety inspection of springs and cables. For most Connecticut homes, this catches small issues before winter weather makes them worse.
Twice a year for heavy use
If your garage door opens more than a few times a day, or if you use your garage as a main entrance, twice-a-year maintenance is worth the small added cost compared to an emergency repair.
What to check between visits
- Listen for new grinding, popping, or scraping sounds
- Watch for the door hesitating or reversing unexpectedly
- Check that the door looks level and balanced when it moves
